Monroe County Legislator Calvin Lee, Jr. represents the 25th District, which includes the Rochester downtown area, Corn Hill, the South West Neighborhood Area, the University of Rochester, and the neighborhoods bordering the Genesee River in southern Rochester. Calvin was appointed to the Legislature in May 2001 to fill a vacancy due to the untimely death of Legislator Willie Lightfoot. He was subsequently elected to a four-year term in 2001, and then reelected in 2005. In January 2006 he was elected to serve as Assistant Minority Leader of the Democratic Caucus. He currently serves on the Public Safety and the Transportation Committees of the Legislature.
Calvin is committed to the southwestern neighborhoods of Rochester and involved with many community groups. Calvin is an alumnus of Charlotte High School, St. John Fisher College, and the Rochester Institute of Technology. He is a member of the Sector 4 City Planning process and a Board Member of Sector 4 CDC, the Community Information Center, and the Southwest Common Council. He sits on the Education Committee, Youth and Recreation Committee, and Business and Economic Development Committee of the Southwest Common Council. As a member of the Southwest Men's Club, Calvin mentors young men on life skills and employment search.
Professionally, Calvin works to find pragmatic solutions for struggling communities as Executive Director of the Montgomery Neighborhood Center.
Calvin Lee, Jr. lives with his family on Shelter Street, in southwest Rochester.
