Monroe County Legislator Ted O'Brien represents the 17th Legislative District, which covers the southern portion of the Town of Irondequoit. Ted was first appointed to the Monroe County Legislature in 2004, and then elected to a two year term in 2005. He currently serves as the Ranking Minority Member of the Agenda/Charter Committee, as well as a member on the Ways & Means Committee. He also serves as the liaison for the County Legislature to the Council of Governments and Caucus Deputy Political Leader.

A lifelong resident of Monroe County, Ted moved to Irondequoit in the mid 1980's. An alumnus of Webster's R.L. Thomas High School, Ted holds a bachelors degree from Union College, and his Juris Doctor degree from Syracuse University. As a member of the Irondequoit Chamber of Commerce, he has remained committed to the economic vitality of the community. He has served as a member of the East Irondequoit School's Facilities Study Committee, and has chaired a citizen's advisory group on planning and economic development. Ted also volunteers as a member of the Board of Directors of the Heritage Christian Services Foundation. Ted OBrien served as Chairman of the Monroe County Democratic Committee from January of 2000 through December 2002.

In addition to his legislative duties, Ted is a partner in the Rochester, New York law firm of Harris, Chesworth, O'Brien, Johnstone, Welch & Leone. Ted was admitted to practice in 1983, and represents a wide spectrum of business and individual clients.

Ted and his wife, Sue Rinere O'Brien, live on Thurlow Avenue in Irondequoit with their two daughters, Brynne and Corinne.
