Leader Cynthia Kaleh represents the 28th District, which includes the Lyell-Otis, Jay-Orchard, Dutchtown, Edgerton and Maplewood neighborhoods of northwest Rochester. Cindy was first appointed to the Legislature in 2008. She is currently the Ranking Minority Member of the Planning and Economic Development and Human Services committees, and also sits on the Intergovernmental Relations committee. In 2014, Legislator Kaleh was appointed to the Monroe County Airport Authority, and early in 2015 was appointed to the "Safe Neighborhoods" workgroup of the Rochester-Monroe Anti-Poverty Initiative. She has served as Minority Leader since January 2016.
Legislator Kaleh was raised in Maplewood, attended #41 School - John Marshall H.S., and graduated from SUNY Geneseo with a BS in Speech Pathology & Audiology. During her tenure as president of the Maplewood Neighborhood Association, she played a critical leadership role in a number of projects. Currently, she is the Volunteer Chairperson for the Maplewood Rose Festival and Party on the Bridge. Legislator Kaleh has served as a member of a number of community groups and committees including the Mayor’s Focused Investment Strategy Committee, the Weed & Seed Committee, Kodak Advisory Council, Injury Free Coalition for Children at Golisano Children’s Hospital, PACTAC, Chief D. Moore’s PCIC, the Zero Tolerance Task Force and is a member of the Northwest Provisional Rotary.
In 1992, Legislator Kaleh and her husband Lawrence opened KalTech Support Team, Inc. an IT and computer services business located on Mount Read Boulevard in Rochester. They live on Fairview Heights in the City of Rochester and have two adult children, Jordan, of Brooklyn, NY, and Farah, a U.S. Army veteran who served in Iraq and South Korea.
