LaShay D. Harris represents the 27th District in the Monroe County Legislature, which is centered on Rochester's historic 19th Ward neighborhood. She currently serves on the Legislature's Public Safety and Human Services committees.
Legislator Harris has worked for Rural/Metro Medical Services since 1993. She is a 2003 graduate of Monroe Community College, earning a degree in Communications and Media Arts.
LaShay later acquired her New York State Real Estate License, providing her first hand experience in aggressive marketing, sales, and contract negotiations with Berkshire Hathaway Home Services Discover Real Estate of Pittsford, NY. LaShay's dedication to the Rochester Community is reflected in her personal and professional activities: serving on various boards of non-profit and professional agencies such as Baden Street Settlement, 19th Ward Community Association, City of Rochester Nuisance Advisory Board, and the City of Rochester Real Estate Board of Assessment to name a few.
LaShay began her career in EMS for the National Ambulance, Rural/Metro's predecessor, as an EMT, eventually becoming a paramedic in 1997 after graduating from the Western New York Emergency Medical Services Training Institute. She previously served as a Paramedic Preceptor, CPR Instructor, and continues as an Educator. In 2003, she took a full-time position at Irondequoit Ambulance as a Paramedic, later promoted to Deputy Operations Manager where she served until her 2008 appointment as the Public Information Officer (PIO) of Rural/Metro Medical Services, Rochester, NY.
During her time as the PIO, LaShay developed a robust and responsive Media Incident Alert Program instrumental in forming a partnership with the local media agencies. In 2014, LaShay was promoted to Market Development Manager. Her responsibilities include, but are not limited to, facilitating business development, maintaining customer relations, Rochester city government, coordinating company events, community education, social media marketing and supervising staff of select Rural/Metro community initiatives. LaShay has been instrumental as an instructor coordinator for the EMS Pathway of the Career Pathways to Public Safety Programand initiated the implementation of EMT training at REOC of the College at Brockport. These programs involve key partnerships with the City of Rochester, Rochester City Schools District and the College at Brockport.
LaShay enjoys salsa dancing, listening to diverse genre of music, traveling and outdoor activities. She enjoys spending quality time with her mother, fiancé Rodney, and her beloved dog, Carmel.
