Legislator Mark S. Muoio represents the 21st Legislative District, which includes most of the North Winton Village, Beechwood and Bensonhurst neighborhoods of the City of Rochester. Mark serves as the ranking minority member on the Legislature’s Agenda/Charter committee and is also a member of the Planning and Economic Development and Ways and Means committees. He was first elected to the Legislature in 2015.
Mark’s roots in the 21st District run deep. Both of his parents were born and raised in the Beechwood neighborhood, and his grandfather owned a business on Culver Road. When Mark was ready to become a homeowner, he was proud to purchase one in this area of the city.
Mark Muoio received his Bachelor of Arts magna cum laude in 2004 from Canisius College in History and English. He was awarded a full scholarship to Seton Hall University School of Law, graduating cum laude in 2009.
After graduating from law school, Mark began working in the Housing Unit at The Legal Aid Society of Rochester. His practice at Legal Aid has included representing tenants in Rochester City Court - Landlord Tenant Part, filing bankruptcies in the Western District of New York Bankruptcy Court, real estate transactions, and foreclosure prevention, serving members of the community during their most vulnerable times.
Witnessing those hardships has given Mark a unique appreciation of the impact that a lack of economic opportunities has had on many residents of Monroe County, and has motivated him to use time on the Legislature to help create such opportunities for all. He also understands the importance of, and is committed to promoting, strong neighborhoods and a county government that takes the concerns of city residents seriously.
