Rochester, New York – May 9, 2012. Monroe County Legislator John Lightfoot (D-Rochester) has obtained an Interdisciplinary Bachelor of Science degree with a focus on Urban Community and Social Change from St. John Fisher College. Legislator Lightfoot wants his constituents to know that it is never too late to further their education.
“As an adult student, I faced many challenges not encountered by more traditional students. But with dedication and perseverance, I was able to fulfill all my family, professional and educational responsibilities. Although it is difficult to perform in so many roles at one time, it is not impossible. I strongly encourage everyone in my district—and in the entire County—to do everything they can to accomplish their goals, no matter what their age or economic situation,” Lightfoot said.
Having grown up in gang-infested neighborhoods where graduation rates are less than fifty percent, Legislator Lightfoot knows the challenges many citizens face each and every day.
“Although the challenges we face may be significant, they can be overcome with time and hard work. For older folks like me, we have to make sure we show that challenges can be overcome and encourage the young and old alike to accomplish their goals,” Lightfoot added.
