Rochester, New York – August 7, 2012.  Several Monroe County Legislators are participating in National Night Out events this evening to promote community efforts to fight crime. National Night Out is an event held in communities around the country encouraging neighborhood spirit and police-community relations.

Legislator John Lightfoot (D-Rochester), who will be participating in the National Night Out event being hosted by the Southwest Common Council and the Southwest Quadrant, said, “These events are an important reminder that we must always redouble our efforts to strengthen relationships between communities and police. In addition, by showing solidarity with our neighbors, we are sending a strong message to criminals that we will not be idle spectators.”

Democratic Minority Leader Ted O’Brien (D-Rochester), who will be participating in the Irondequoit National Night Out event, said, “It is truly amazing to see what ordinary folks can accomplish when we work together as a team toward a common goal. Crime prevention and community relations with police must be top priorities for all government officials and that’s why I am honored be participating in tonight’s event.”

Members of the Democratic Caucus will be recognizing a number of National Night Out events throughout the County today.
