Rochester, New York — May 19, 2015. Legislator Dorothy Styk (D – Perinton, East Rochester), along with other members of the Monroe County Legislature, will be hosting a public forum regarding toxic chemicals found in children’s products. The forum will be held on Wednesday, May 27th at 7:00 p.m. at the Perinton Community Center, located at 1350 Turk Hill Road, Fairport, NY 14450. People interested in speaking are encouraged to call 753-1940 to sign up to speak before the forum.
“Our job as legislators is to listen to our fellow citizens, and hosting a forum in the community is a great way to hear their concerns,” said Legislator Styk. “We want to hear from parents, experts and other concerned citizens to make sure we are doing everything we can to protect children from harmful chemicals.”
The presence of toxic chemicals in children’s products has been the subject of advocacy reports across the state and has led to legislative action in counties as well as at the state level. Albany and Westchester Counties have passed legislation regulating toxic chemicals in children’s products. In April, a lawsuit was filed against Albany County to block the law. A federal judge has since granted a motion to stay that county’s law.
