Rochester, New York - In response to New York State Comptroller Thomas DiNapoli's report listing Monroe County as the most fiscally stressed County in the state, Monroe County Legislator Carrie Andrews has released the following statement:
"For the past several years, Monroe County has ranked among the most fiscally stressed municipalities in the state. Year after year, the County ignores these red flags and continues its irresponsible budgeting practices, like deferring $60 million in pension costs. Now, according to the Comptroller's Fiscal Stress Management System Report, Monroe County has the worst fiscal stress score in the state. Each year, the County Executive blames supposedly uncontrollable state mandates for the county's fiscal woes. However, this excuse ignores reality: all counties face the same state mandates and yet only Monroe County deals with them in such a way that it is in the worst fiscal condition of any county in the state. It is time we actually address our fiscal woes and stop pointing fingers elsewhere."
